يَـٰزَكَرِيَّآ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَـٰمٍ ٱسْمُهُۥ يَحْيَىٰ لَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُۥ مِن قَبْلُ سَمِيًّا

“O Zachariah, We bring you news about a boy whose name will be Yahya [John]. We have not given such a name to anyone before” (19:7). 

Corresponding Hadith

Imam al-Sadiq stated: “Prior to [Imam] Hussain bin Ali, no one carried his name, and [likewise] prior to Yahya bin Zakariyya, no one carried his name. And the sky wept upon them both for forty mornings."  It was asked of Imam al-Sadiq: “and what was the crying [of the sky]?” He responded: it was “the redness that emerges [at dawn] and the redness that disappears [at dusk].”

الصّادق (علیه السلام)- الْحُسَیْنُ‌بْنُ‌عَلِیٍّ (علیه السلام) لَمْ یَکُنْ لَهُ مِنْ قَبْلُ سَمِیّاً وَ یَحْیَی‌بْنُ‌زَکَرِیَّا (علیه السلام) لَمْ یَکُنْ لَهُ مِنْ قَبْلُ سَمِیّا وَ لَمْ تَبْكِ السَّمَاءُ إِلَّا عَلَیْهِمَا أَرْبَعِینَ صَبَاحاً قِیلَ لَهُ وَ مَا بُکَاؤُهَا قَالَ کَانَتْ تَطْلُعُ حَمْرَاءَ وَ تَغِیبُ حَمْرَاءَ.
