Hadith of the Leading Example

حدثني محمد بن جعفر الرزاز عن خاله محمد بن الحسين بن ابي الخطاب عن نصر بن مزاحم عن عمر بن سعد عمرو بن سعيد عن علي بن حماد عن عمرو بن شمر عن جابر عن ابي عبد الله ع قال قال علي ع للحسين ع يا ابا عبد الله اسوة انت قدما فقال جعلت فداك ما حالي قال علمت ما جهلوا و سينتفع عالم بما علم يا بني اسمع و ابصر من قبل ان ياتيك فو الذي نفسي بيده ليسفكن بنو امية دمك ثم لا يزيلونك عن دينك و لا ينسونك ذكر ربك فقال الحسين و الذي نفسي بيده حسبي اقررت بما انزل الله و اصدق قول نبي الله و لا اكذب قول ابي حدثني ابي رحمه الله و جماعة عن سعد بن عبد الله و محمد بن يحيي عن محمد بن الحسين باسناده مثله

[Imam] Ali said to [Imam] Hussain: “O Abu Abdullah [Hussain], it is established that you will be a leading example.” “May I be sacrificed for you, what [will become] of me?” Hussain asked. “You know what others are ignorant of, and the world will benefit from what it knows. My son, listen and take heed [of what I am telling you] before it happens to you. By the One [Allah] who has my life in His Hand, the Umayyad clan will shed your blood but will not be able to separate you from your religion nor will they be able to make you forget the remembrance of your Lord.” Hussain responded: “I swear by the One who has my life in His Hand that this is sufficient for me. I submit to that which Allah has revealed. I testify to the statements of Allah’s Prophet, and I do not falsify the statements of my father.”
